The more I looked at this solid purple yarn, the more I saw all sorts of colors (mostly blues and reds) in it. It's just standard worsted weight probably acrylic yarn. Needle size: I used size 4, but I tend to knit loosely so I go down a size. These are stockinette stitch with garter borders, knit flat and then stitched up the side.
Leaving a long tail (for sewing up part of the side later), cast on 24
border
rows 1-6: k across
main body:
stockinette for 25 rows (or desired length)
row 1 knit across (right side)
row 2 purl across (wrong side)
border
row 26 (wrong side) k across
row 27 k across
row 28 k across
row 29 cast off while knitting
These are sewn “upside down” so the first border is at the top on the fingers and the last border you knit is on the wrists.. (You can do it any way you want—I only did this because on one of them, I didn’t leave a long enough tail when I cast on, so I decided to turn them “upside down.” I actually like the wider garter border on the top.)
These are sewn about 1.75 inches from top to thumb hole. Thumb hole is 2 inches. Bottom is 4 inches. use your yarn tails and a tapestry needle (or crochet hook). Put right sides together when you sew.

I do love the look of these, but I'm confused about the pattern. You say to cast on 24 stitches, then to knit a row, then purl a row for the border, but that would be garter stitch in the round. The pattern states knit flat then sewn up later, but they look like a garter stitch border top and bottom, what am I missing here?
