row 1: p1 *k2 p2* k2 p1

row 2: knit across

repeat rows 1 and 2 until you have 3 inches (or desired length if you want them to extend farther up your arm.

odd number row 1: p1 k2 p2 k2 *p* to last 7; k2 p2 k2 p1

row 2: knit across

row 3: p1 k2 *p*

row 4: knit across

row 5: purl across

repeat rows 4 and 5 until almost desired length.

top edge:

row 1: p1 *k2 p2* k2 p1

row 2: knit across

row 3: p1 *k2 p2* k2 p1

row 4: knit across

row 5: bind off while keeping pattern: p1 *k2 p2* k2 p1

Leave a tail long enough to sew up part of side.

Turn right sides together, use tapestry needle to sew each end, leaving a gap for the thumb.

(Sew top about 8 rows, leave about 12 rows for the thumb).

NOTE: check the size needed and the size and location for thumb hole for your hand (or the recipient’s hand). This is a stretchy stitch so it can expand for larger hands.

If you want it to go farther up the arm, make it longer.

CHECK YOUR GAGE! Compare it to the size hand you need to fit and adjust number of cast-on stitches and rows. I tend to knit loosely so my gage might not match yours.
