I used a pattern from Gina Michele to make adorable (garter stitch) baby booties. These are addictive.
Of course after one pair, I could just had to try variations and modifications. So, I knitted up a pair in pink self-striping yarn using the seed stitch instead. It's a stretchier stitch. Gina-michele's pattern starts out as a T shape (before you sew it into a bootie). Using the seed stitch, the long part of the T only needs 18 rows instead of 20. Since we all knit a little differently, you can just check the size as you go.
